Life

He was born at Capodistria (Koper), then part of the Venetian Republic and studied jurisprudence in Padua, where he delivered lectures in 1522. He also practiced law in Verona, Padua, and Venice. In 1526, he married Diana Contarini, whose early death was at least a partial cause of his entering upon an ecclesiastical career.

Famous quotes containing the word life:

    From too much love of living,
    From hope and fear set free,
    We thank with brief thanksgiving
    Whatever gods may be
    That no life lives for ever;
    That dead men rise up never;
    That even the weariest river
    Winds somewhere safe to sea.
    —A.C. (Algernon Charles)

    Don’t tell me that you have exhausted Life. When a man says that, one knows that life has exhausted him.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)

    All my life I’ve felt like somebody’s wife, or somebody’s mother or somebody’s daughter. Even all the time we were together, I never knew who I was. And that’s why I had to go away. And in California, I think I found myself.
    Robert Benton (b. 1932)
