Piano Concerto No. 3 (Prokofiev) - Recordings

Recordings

Prokofiev himself made the first recording of the Piano Concerto No. 3 in June 1932 with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Piero Coppola. The recording was made at Abbey Road Studios in London and is the only recording that exists of Prokofiev performing one of his own piano concertos. Martha Argerich recorded this concerto with Claudio Abbado in the late 1960s in a famous disc for Deutsche Grammophon, and it is regarded as one of her signature pieces. She also received a Grammy Award for her performance of this concerto in 2000. Evgeny Kissin and Vladimir Ashkenazy have made a Grammy Award-winning recording of this work along with Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor with the Philharmonia Orchestra. In 2009, Horacio Gutiérrez’s 1990 recording with Neeme Jarvi and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, was reissued, Prokofiev The Concertos, receiving notable acclaim.
