Reorganization: Jones Law (1916)
Pursuant to the provisions of the Jones Law, the legislative set-up was changed. The Philippine Commission was abolished and the reorganized Philippine Legislature, inaugurated on October 16, 1916, consisting of the Philippine Senate and the Philippine House of Representatives was established. Thus, the history of the present Senate of the Philippines can be traced in relative terms from the time the Americans colonized the country.
The Philippine Legislature continued to serve as the country's legislative body until 1935, when the Commonwealth of the Philippines was established. The National Assembly of the Philippines became the country's legislative body.

Famous quotes containing the words jones and/or law:
“Mens hearts are cold. They are indifferent. Not all the coal that is dug warms the world. It remains indifferent to the lives of those who risk their life and health down in the blackness of the earth; who crawl through dark, choking crevices with only a bit of lamp on their caps to light their silent way; whose backs are bent with toil, whose very bones ache, whose happiness is sleep, and whose peace is death.”
—Mother Jones (18301930)
“We accept and welcome ... as conditions to which we must accommodate ourselves, great inequality of environment; the concentration of business, industrial and commercial, in the hands of a few; and the law of competition between these, as being not only beneficial, but essential for the future progress of the race.”
—Andrew Carnegie (18351919)
