Comic Books
Phantom 2040 was adapted into a comic book series by Marvel Comics in 1995 (cover dated May-Aug. 1995). Only four issues were published, released as a mini-series . The stories were only loosely based on the TV series, and had a different tone than the dark, complicated animated show. The comic book was written by Peter Quinones, pencilled by Steve Ditko, and inked by Bill Reinhold. Each issue featured a free poster drawn by such artists as John Romita Sr.

“And in a comic mood
In mid-air take to bed a wife.”
—Karl Shapiro (b. 1913)
“Our books are false by being fragmentary: their sentences are bon mots, and not parts of natural discourse; childish expressions of surprise or pleasure in nature; or, worse, owing a brief notoriety to their petulance, or aversion from the order of nature, being some curiosity or oddity, designedly not in harmony with nature, and purposely framed to excite surprise, as jugglers do by concealing their means.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
