White's Third Move
White has four main choices for his third move:
- 3.Nc3, which may transpose to the Four Knights Game or the Three Knights Game
- 3.Bc4, which may lead to the Boden–Kieseritzky Gambit or transpose to the Two Knights Defence
- 3.Nxe5, the Classical variation
- 3.d4, the Steinitz Variation
White usually prefers 3.Nxe5, 3.Nc3 or 3.d4.

Famous quotes containing the words white and/or move:
“The fact that white people readily and proudly call themselves white, glorify all that is white, and whitewash all that is glorified, becomes unnatural and bigoted in its intent only when these same whites deny persons of African heritage who are Black the natural and inalienable right to readilyproudlycall themselves black, glorify all that is black, and blackwash all that is glorified.”
—Abbey Lincoln (b. 1930)
“Thats just the trouble, Sam Houstonits always my move. And damnit, I sometimes cant tell whether Im making the right move or not. Now take this Vietnam mess. How in the hell can anyone know for sure whats right and whats wrong, Sam?”
