Petrograd Standard

Petrograd Standard is an old Nordic measure for softwood timber. Largest barques could transport up to 1000 stds.

  • 1 std of board equals 165 (English) cubic feet or 1980 board foot, or 120 pieces 12′ × 11″ × 1½″, or 4.672 cubic meters.
  • 1 std of round wood equals 120 cubic feet, or 3.398 m³

Note that Kristiania Standard is 5/8 of Petrograd Standard, and London Standard is 270 cu. ft.

Famous quotes containing the word standard:

If the Revolution has the right to destroy bridges and art monuments whenever necessary, it will stop still less from laying its hand on any tendency in art which, no matter how great its achievement in form, threatens to disintegrate the revolutionary environment or to arouse the internal forces of the Revolution, that is, the proletariat, the peasantry and the intelligentsia, to a hostile opposition to one another. Our standard is, clearly, political, imperative and intolerant.
    Leon Trotsky (1879–1940)
