Peter T. King

Peter Thomas King (born April 5, 1944) is the U.S. Representative for New York's 3rd congressional district, serving since 1993. He is a member of the Republican Party, and represents the central Long Island district that includes parts of Nassau and Suffolk counties.

King currently serves as the Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee and drew attention in early 2011 for holding hearings on the extent of radicalization of Muslim Americans. He also sits on the Financial Services Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He will step down after his seventh year as Homeland Security Chair because of self-imposed Republican term limits. He will still remain a member of the committee.
