Perfect Gas Nomenclature
The terms perfect gas and ideal gas are sometimes used interchangeably, depending on the particular field of physics and engineering. Sometimes, other distinctions are made, such as between thermally perfect gas and calorically perfect gas, or between imperfect, semi-perfect, perfect, and ideal gases. The assumptions are summarized in the following table.
| Nomenclature 1 |
Nomenclature 2 |
Specific heat at constant V |
Ideal-gas law and |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calorically perfect | Perfect | Constant | Yes |
| Thermally perfect | Semi-perfect | T-dependent | Yes |
| Ideal | May be T and/or p-dependent | Yes | |
| Imperfect | T and p-dependent | No |

Famous quotes containing the words perfect and/or gas:
“So much of our lives is given over to the consideration of our imperfections that there is no time to improve our imaginary virtues. The truth is we only perfect our vices, and man is a worse creature when he dies than he was when he was born.”
—Edward Dahlberg (19001977)
“Shielded, what sorts of life are stirring yet:
Legs lagged like drains, slippers soft as fungus,
The gas and grate, the old cold sour grey bed.”
—Philip Larkin (19221986)
