Perf SONAR - Framework

Framework

To address the objectives a framework with three layers has been developed to separate measurements, their management and their visualization.

Measurement Points from the lowest layer in the system (Measurement Point Layer) and are responsible for measuring network metrics. The measurements can be carried out using active or passive monitoring techniques, i.e. by the use of additional test packets or the monitoring of existing packets. Each Measurement Point deals with a specific metric (e.g., one-way delay, one-way-delay variation, packet loss, utilization, available bandwidth).

The Service Layer is the middle layer of the framework and consists of administrative domains. It allows for the exchange of measurement data and management information between domains. In each domain, a set of services is responsible for the domain control. Each of them is in charge of a specific functionality, like authentication and authorization, discovery of the other services providing specific functionalities, resource management, or measurement of network traffic parameters. The interaction of the services inside a domain as well as the access to the Measurement Point Layer or other domains may not be visible to the end user. Some of the services contain an interface which can be accessed by the User Interface Layer.

The User Interface Layer consists of visualization tools (user interfaces) which present of measured data according to the needs of specific user groups. In addition, they may allow users to perform tests using the lower layers of the framework.

Famous quotes containing the word framework:

The city is a fact in nature, like a cave, a run of mackerel or an ant-heap. But it is also a conscious work of art, and it holds within its communal framework many simpler and more personal forms of art. Mind takes form in the city; and in turn, urban forms condition mind.
    Lewis Mumford (1895–1990)

Most young black females learn to be suspicious and critical of feminist thinking long before they have any clear understanding of its theory and politics.... Without rigorously engaging feminist thought, they insist that racial separatism works best. This attitude is dangerous. It not only erases the reality of common female experience as a basis for academic study; it also constructs a framework in which differences cannot be examined comparatively.
    bell hooks (b. c. 1955)

Seeing our common-sense conceptual framework for mental phenomena as a theory brings a simple and unifying organization to most of the major topics in the philosophy of mind.
    Paul M. Churchland (b. 1942)
