History

The first documentary record of Peregu Mare dates back to 1241.

Magister Rogerius (Italian monk from Benevento, Apulia) wrote: „XXXII: De destructione Nove-uille et monasterii de Egres. Uersus Orodinum et Chandinum procedere inceperunt, in medio eorum, Noua-uilli dimissa, nomen cuius Pereg fuerat, in qua homines septuaginta uillarum fuerant congregati, et dimisso monasterio Egres Cisterciensis ordinis, in quod tanquam munitum castrum se milites et multe domine receperant. Nec Tartari loca illa aggredi uoluerunt, quousque circumcirca esset terra totaliter desolata. (...) —Magister Rogerius, Carmen miserabile.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The history of the past is but one long struggle upward to equality.
    Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815–1902)

There is one great fact, characteristic of this our nineteenth century, a fact which no party dares deny. On the one hand, there have started into life industrial and scientific forces which no epoch of former human history had ever suspected. On the other hand, there exist symptoms of decay, far surpassing the horrors recorded of the latter times of the Roman empire. In our days everything seems pregnant with its contrary.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)

There are two great unknown forces to-day, electricity and woman, but men can reckon much better on electricity than they can on woman.
Josephine K. Henry, U.S. suffragist. As quoted in History of Woman Suffrage, vol. 4, ch. 15, by Susan B. Anthony and Ida Husted Harper (1902)
