In 1991 Pennfield won the state title in football under Coach Dave Hudson. In 1981, Pennfield High School won the Class C state volleyball championships, following up on its 1979 class B championship, making it the first school in Michigan to win state championships in two classes. The girls basketball team's 1981 championship made it the first Class C school (and second school in the state) to win girls' basketball and volleyball titles in the same school year. The Panthers football team recently qualified for the MHSAA football playoffs for the 14th time in school history since 1991. In 1992 Pennfield won the MHSAA state title in wrestling, and in 1993 was state runner-up under Coach Larry Boyer. During the 1992 and 1993 wrestling seasons, Pennfield placed three MHSAA individual state champions Jeremy Harris, Jason Bradley, and Brett Weiss.

Famous quotes containing the words athletic and/or programs:
“The only athletic sport I ever mastered was backgammon.”
—Douglas Jerrold (18031857)
“There is a delicate balance of putting yourself last and not being a doormat and thinking of yourself first and not coming off as selfish, arrogant, or bossy. We spend the majority of our lives attempting to perfect this balance. When we are successful, we have many close, healthy relationships. When we are unsuccessful, we suffer the natural consequences of damaged and sometimes broken relationships. Children are just beginning their journey on this important life lesson.”
