The station broadcasts from studios on High Street in Penistone and interacts with the community across Penistone and the surrounding area with interviews, features, news of local events and updates on the town's redevelopment. Penistone FM is a not-for-profit organisation that is run by volunteers. Local people are encouraged to volunteer on the station and receive training.
The station broadcasts to Hoylandswaine, Thurgoland, Cawthorne, Silkstone, Cubley, Thurlstone, Wortley and Oxspring. The FM signal is broadcast from an 8 metre high mast at Hoylandswaine and although of low power at only 20 watts, the station can be heard widely around North, West and South Yorkshire Sheffield, Barnsley and parts of Denby Dale, Wakefield, parts of Leeds, Doncaster, York Stocksbridge and Kirklees.
