Music
Cathedral Choirs:
The Cathedral has two choirs: the Cathedral Choristers (mixed boy and girl trebles aged 7–14 years) which sing a weekly Choral Evensong on Sundays at 3.30pm and an adult voluntary choir 'the Nave Choir', which sing most Sunday morning 10.30am Eucharists.
At the moment and while the trebles develop, for large diocesan services a choir is drawn from the Cathedral Choristers and the Nave Choir, as well as invited singers from across the whole diocese.
Organs:
The Cathedral has a large 2 manual Brindley & Foster organ in the Chancel and a Viscount 3 manual "Physis" organ in the Nave. Across the next 5 years the pipe organ will be rebuilt, re-ordered and significantly enlarged to meet the demands of the Cathedral's choral program.
The Organist & Director of Music is Peter Litman.

Famous quotes containing the word music:
“Noble and wise men once believed in the music of the spheres: noble and wise men still continue to believe in the moral significance of existence. But one day even this sphere-music will no longer be audible to them! They will wake up and take note that their ears were dreaming.”
—Friedrich Nietzsche (18441900)
“La la la, Oh music swims back to me
and I can feel the tune they played
the night they left me
in this private institution on a hill.”
—Anne Sexton (19281974)
“If this be love, to clothe me with dark thoughts,
Haunting untrodden paths to wail apart;
My pleasures horror, music tragic notes,
Tears in mine eyes and sorrow at my heart.
If this be love, to live a living death,
Then do I love and draw this weary breath.”
—Samuel Daniel (15621619)
