Paying Guests is a Bollywood film starring Shreyas Talpade, Javed Jaffrey, Aashish Chaudhary and Vatsal Seth in the lead roles. It is directed by Paritosh Painter under Subhash Ghai's Mukta Arts banner. A comedy film revolving around four close friends who reside together in Pattaya, it is a remake of Marathi film Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi from the late 1980s film and borrows the basic plot from 1966 B&W comedy movie Biwi aur makaan, directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
Shooting started in the second week of April 2008. Riya Sen was originally offered Neha Dhupia's role, Aarti Gupta, but declined and instead chose the role as Jayesh's melodramatic girlfriend, Alpita. A sequel, Paying Guests 2, is in production and will take place against the backdrop of a beauty pageant.
