Personal
Westerberg is married to former Zuzu's Petals guitarist and author Laurie Lindeen. They have a son, Johnny (born 1998), whose voice is likely on 49:00 and "Whatever Makes You Happy" from Westerberg's solo album Suicaine Gratifaction. Westerberg severely injured his fretting hand in 2006, in an accident while trying to remove candle wax with a screwdriver leaving his ring finger on his left hand numb, and as of 2008 had since performed only one live show. He resides in Edina, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. His younger sister, Mary Lucia, is a D.J. at local radio station 89.3 The Current. He is influenced by a number of artists, including Alex Chilton of Big Star, about whom he wrote a song on 1987's Pleased to Meet Me.
Westerberg is a recovered alcoholic, having been sober since 1990.

Famous quotes containing the word personal:
“The dialectic between change and continuity is a painful but deeply instructive one, in personal life as in the life of a people. To see the light too often has meant rejecting the treasures found in darkness.”
—Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
“Love is a scandal of the personal sort.”
—Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (18601904)
“Personality and mind, like moustaches, belong to a certain age. They are a deformity in a child.... Leave his sensibilities, his emotions, his spirit, and his mind severely alone. There is the devil in mothers, that they must provoke personal ... response from their infants.”
—D.H. (David Herbert)
