Jewell's family home is in Menston, Bradford, and currently lives in Dedham on the Suffolk / Essex border. He is married to Ann-Marie; they have a son, Sam, who is a Yorkshire county golfer, and a teenage daughter called Alex. His father was a trade union activist in Liverpool.
