Patrick Sherrill - The Attack

The Attack

Shortly after 7:00 a.m. on August 20, 1986, Sherrill began his deadly rampage by shooting Richard Esser Jr., one of two supervisors who had disciplined him the previous day. Bill Bland was the other supervisor; fortunately for Bland he had overslept and was an hour late to work, by which time the shootings were already well underway. Sherrill's second victim was Paul Michael "Mike" Rockne, grandson of legendary Notre Dame football coach Knute Rockne.

80 to 100 workers were in the small facility at the time of the attack. Sherrill sealed off exits and pursued his victims in a massacre that lasted approximately fifteen minutes. Fourteen people died at the scene, and six others were wounded and taken to nearby hospitals. The shooting ended when Sherrill committed suicide.

Famous quotes containing the word attack:

Conventionality is not morality. Self-righteousness is not religion. To attack the first is not to assail the last. To pluck the mask from the face of the Pharisee is not to lift an impious hand to the Crown of Thorns.
    Charlotte Brontë (1816–1855)

...I believed passionately that Communists were a race of horned men who divided their time equally between the burning of Nancy Drew books and the devising of a plan of nuclear attack that would land the largest and most lethal bomb squarely upon the third-grade class of Thomas Jefferson School in Morristown, New Jersey.
    Fran Lebowitz (b. 1950)
