Early Life
Patrice grew up in Dallas, Texas, where her stepfather was a musician playing in local clubs. Her introduction to music was both ukelele and violin which she received as a child. When she was 15, she began attending the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (aka the 'Arts Magnet'). Former attendees of the school include Edie Brickell, Norah Jones and Zac Baird; among Patrice's classmates was Roy Hargrove.
After graduating from Booker T. Washington, Pike attended the University of North Texas. She left the university and started the band Little Sister in 1991 with band co-founder Wayne Sutton.

Famous quotes containing the words early life, early and/or life:
“... business training in early life should not be regarded solely as insurance against destitution in the case of an emergency. For from business experience women can gain, too, knowledge of the world and of human beings, which should be of immeasurable value to their marriage careers. Self-discipline, co-operation, adaptability, efficiency, economic management,if she learns these in her business life she is liable for many less heartbreaks and disappointments in her married life.”
—Hortense Odlum (1892?)
“Franklin said once in one of his inspired flights of malignity
Early to bed and early to rise
Make a man healthy and wealth and wise.
As if it were any object to a boy to be healthy and wealthy and wise on such terms.”
—Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (18351910)
“I went back to my work, but now without enthusiasm. I had looked through an open door that I was not willing to see shut upon me. I began to reflect upon life rather seriously for a girl of twelve or thirteen. What was I here for? What could I make of myself? Must I submit to be carried along with the current, and do just what everybody else did?”
—Lucy Larcom (18241893)
