Path 27

Path 27 (also called Intermountain) is the designation of a bipolar HVDC transmission line between a Intermountain Power Agency power plant in Utah situated at 39°30′2″N 112°34′51″W / 39.50056°N 112.58083°W / 39.50056; -112.58083 (Delta Static Inverter Plant - Intermountain transmission line (north end))Coordinates: 39°30′2″N 112°34′51″W / 39.50056°N 112.58083°W / 39.50056; -112.58083 (Delta Static Inverter Plant - Intermountain transmission line (north end)) and the Adelanto static inverter plant near Adelanto, California at 34°33′4″N 117°26′14″W / 34.55111°N 117.43722°W / 34.55111; -117.43722 (Adelanto Static Inverter Plant - Intermountain transmission line (south end)).

The Intermountain is a bipolar overhead line 488 miles (785 km) long, and can transfer a maximum power of 1,920 megawatts at ±500 kV. The part of the line that travels through the Mojave Desert is followed by many other AC 500 kV lines and Interstate 15.

The Pacific DC Intertie is the other HVDC line serving Los Angeles. This HVDC line is owned and operated by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). HVDC lines such as the Intermountain line and the Pacific DC Intertie can be distinguished by the observer by having two transmission wires, rather than the three necessary for transmission of three phase AC power.

Famous quotes containing the word path:

The lesson which these observations convey is, be, and not seem. Let us acquiesce. Let us take our bloated nothingness out of the path of the divine circuits. Let us unlearn our wisdom of the world. Let us lie low in the lord’s power, and learn that truth alone makes rich and great.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
