Patent Reform Act of 2009 - Proposed Changes

Proposed Changes

The Patent Reform Act of 2009 was similar to the acts of 2005 and 2007, but controversial sections were removed, such as:

  • Applicant Quality Submissions: Proposed that patent applicants must find out for themselves if a patent already exists prior to filing.
  • Inequitable Conduct: Would eliminate the need for patent filers to act in "good faith" in order to enforce their patents.
  • USPTO Authority: Granted the United States Patent & Trademark Office substantial rule-making authority.

Famous quotes containing the word proposed:

He [Roosevelt] has made some speeches that indicate that he is going quite beyond anything that he advocated when he was in the White House, and has proposed a program which is absolutely impossible to carry out except by a revision of the Constitution.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)

There never seems to be any difficulty in stretching the laws and the constitution to fit any kind of a political deal, but when it is proposed to make some concession to women they loom up like an unscalable wall.
    Susan B. Anthony (1820–1906)
