Managerial Career
Lam's first managerial position was as an Assistant Coach to Scotland at the 2003 Rugby World Cup.
He was Head Coach of Auckland from 2004 until 2008. During his Auckland tenure he also coached the Pacific Islanders in 2006. His success at Auckland led him to being appointed Head Coach of Super Rugby team the Blues in 2009. He was dismissed in 2012 after a disappointing season.
He worked with Samoa on the team's 2012 tour. Samoa's victories saw it reach eighth in the IRB rankings, and a secure second tier position for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
Lam was appointed as Head Coach of Connacht Rugby in Ireland for the 2013/14 Pro12 season.

Famous quotes containing the word career:
“I doubt that I would have taken so many leaps in my own writing or been as clear about my feminist and political commitments if I had not been anointed as early as I was. Some major form of recognition seems to have to mark a womans career for her to be able to go out on a limb without having her credentials questioned.”
—Ruth Behar (b. 1956)
