Party Secretary

In politics, a party secretary is a senior official within a political party with responsibility for the organizational and daily political work. In most parties, the party secretary is second in rank to the party leader (or party Chairman).

In some parties, especially Communist Parties, the General Secretary is the leader.

Famous quotes containing the words party and/or secretary:

We are in a period when old questions are settled and the new are not yet brought forward. Extreme party action, if continued in such a time, would ruin the party. Moderation is its only chance. The party out of power gains by all partisan conduct of those in power.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

... the wife of an executive would be a better wife had she been a secretary first. As a secretary, you learn to adjust to the boss’s moods. Many marriages would be happier if the wife would do that.
Anne Bogan, U.S. executive secretary. As quoted in Working, book 1, by Studs Terkel (1973)
