Partible Paternity

Partible paternity, or shared paternity is where a child is understood to have more than one biological father. In societies with the concept of partible paternity this often results in the nurture of a child being shared by multiple fathers, although this is not universally the case. The concept of partible paternity is found in many Amazonian societies such as the Araweté, Mehinaku, Tapirapé, Xoceleng, and Wari'.
