Paroxysmal Hypertension

Paroxysmal hypertension is episodic high blood pressure, which may be due to stress of any sort or from phaeochromocytoma, a type of tumor involving the adrenal medulla. Patients with paroxysmal hypertension who test negative for phaeochromocytoma are said to be suffering from pseudophaechromocytoma, a disorder with no known cause.

Famous quotes containing the word paroxysmal:

New York has never learnt the art of growing old by playing on all its pasts. Its present invents itself, from hour to hour, in the act of throwing away its previous accomplishments and challenging the future. A city composed of paroxysmal places in monumental reliefs.
    Michel de Certeau (1925–1986)
