Professions in Architecture

  • Architect – a person trained in the planning, design and oversight of the construction of buildings.
    • Architectural designer – an architect that is primarily involved in the design of buildings or urban landscapes, as opposed to the construction documents and management required to construct it.
    • Landscape architect – a person involved in the planning, design and sometimes direction of a landscape, garden, or distinct space.
    • Starchitect – architects whose celebrity and critical acclaim have transformed them into idols of the architecture world and may even have given them some degree of fame amongst the general public.
  • Architectural technologist – also known as a Building Technologist, provides building design services and solutions and is trained in architectural technology, building design and construction.
