The Outer Perimeter was an expressway originally planned to encircle Atlanta about 20 to 25 miles (about 30 to 40 km) outside of Interstate 285. I-285 is colloquially referred to as the Perimeter and is a point of reference for local travel outside of Atlanta's city core.
