Fine Arts

We are committed to allowing our students to discover and develop their unique gifts. Students are encouraged and mentored toward competing in Regional, State, and National competitions.

Art Art classes are designed to encourage creativity and develop artistic ability. Elementary students take art as a specialty class, while middle and high school students can select it as a wheel or elective class. Art classes include sketching, painting, sculpture, photography, and pottery. Students that excel in this area are encouraged to participate in our annual Fine Arts competition. Students from 3rd-12th grades may compete in regional and state fine arts competitions.

Music Music is a very important part of our world. As a preschool and elementary specialty class, it is a time when children learn about basic music theory and rhythm, as well as learning well-loved songs. In middle and high school, our students can select to take a music appreciation class, and we have Drumline as an elective. Drumline plays at many of our sporting events. We also have a high school level Glee class that both sings and does other types of performing arts. In 2011, our Glee class went to state competition for Reader's Theatre. Additionally, there is an annual Christmas program and spring musical that students at different levels can participate in. Many times these productions include drama, music, and dance.

Drama Drama is another class that is offered at the middle and high school levels. Students will learn about stage productions, filmography, and learn skills in acting. From following a script to improvisation, to writing their own play, students will be challenged to broaden their artistic horizons. Coupled with art, music, and speech, drama is another area in which our students often participate in Fine Arts competitions.

Speech Led by veteran high school English teacher, Diane Sechrist, students are urged to practice speaking in front of their peers. While speech is integrated into each year of high school and offered as an elective, students who excel in and enjoy this talent are coached individually while they pursue competitions.

Competitions Each year OCP participates in high school FACCS Regional Fine Arts Competition and the Jr. FACCS Regional and State competitions for elementary and middle school.

Private Lessons Piano is available for elementary students. Guitar and drum lessons are available for middle and high school students, any level and all music styles.

Fine Arts Competitions Orlando Christian Prep participates in the yearly fine arts competitions through FACCS (Florida Association of Christian Colleges & Schools.)For the past several years, OCP has hosted the FACCS Junior Fine Arts Competition right here on our campus! Students from Kindergarten through 8th grade may compete in categories such as Duet Acting, Acrylic Painting, Instrumental Solo, Chorus, Photography, Humorous Monologue, Crafts, and many more.

This is an opportunity for our students to shine, and each year many OCP Warriors take home first, second, and third place awards, and are able to compete at the state level in late Spring.

For our high schoolers, the state FACCS Fine Arts Competition is held in Jacksonville, Florida. They are able to participate in all of the same categories, and the competition is fierce. Every year, OCP students come home with awards from this special event.

We are so proud of our OCP Warriors and their accomplishments in Fine Arts!

Drum Line Started in the fall of 2010, the OCP Drumline has set itself apart within the Fine Arts at Orlando Christian Prep.Lead by instructor, Michael Schmitt, the drumline was crafted to support the inaugural OCP Football team. Not only have they played the football team into victory, but you can also find the OCP Drumline on the sidelines of the soccer field and supporting the varsity basketball team throughout the playoffs. The drumline has also participated in different Central Florida parades, marching through the streets of downtown Orlando. The OCP drumline combines traditional style marching and cadences with fun game-time tunes.

The OCP Drumline is open to all students with a good attitude and a love for music to participate, with openings on core style drums and brass instruments . During the spring season, drumline students can be found participating in an original musical/theatrical production featured at the Night of Fine Arts. The aim is to encourage students to develop their musical skills in multiple areas, truly becoming the Sound of the Warriors.

Famous quotes containing the words fine and/or arts:

Pride can go without domestics, without fine clothes, can live in a house with two rooms, can eat potato, purslain, beans, lyed corn, can work on the soil, can travel afoot, can talk with poor men, or sit silent well contented with fine saloons. But vanity costs money, labor, horses, men, women, health and peace, and is still nothing at last; a long way leading nowhere.—Only one drawback; proud people are intolerably selfish, and the vain are gentle and giving.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The arts are not just instantaneous pleasure—if you don’t like it, the artist is wrong. I belong to the generation which says if you don’t like it, you don’t understand and you ought to find out.
    John Drummond (b. 1934)
