Order of Julian of Norwich - Spiritual Life

Spiritual Life

The monks and nuns of the Order lead lives balanced in prayer, work, and recreation. They rise at 3.30am, pray a four-fold daily office, celebrate a daily mass, and engage in individual and community works; their day ends with compline (night prayer) at 7.00pm. Professed sisters and brothers take a four-fold vow; this consists of the customary three-fold monastic vow of poverty, chastity, and obedience, plus a fourth vow of commitment to daily prayer "in the spirit of our Blessed Mother Saint Julian".

Famous quotes containing the words spiritual and/or life:

In the morning I awake, and find the old world, wife, babes, and mother, Concord and Boston, the dear old spiritual world, and even the dear old devil not far off. If we shall take the good we find, asking no questions, we shall have heaping measures.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The price we pay for the complexity of life is too high. When you think of all the effort you have to put in—telephonic, technological and relational—to alter even the slightest bit of behaviour in this strange world we call social life, you are left pining for the straightforwardness of primitive peoples and their physical work.
    Jean Baudrillard (b. 1929)
