The Order of Aftab (Nishan-i-Aftab) was founded by Nasser al-Din Shah Qajar, the King of Persia, in February 1873, before his first visit to various European states. The order came in two classes, the first class restricted to female sovereigns or consorts of reigning rulers and the second class to princesses and ladies of high rank, and those deserving of special recognition or signs of conspicuous appreciation by the Shah.

Famous quotes containing the words order of and/or order:
“It is with unfathomable love, pure joy and no regret that we leave this world. Men, do not cry for our fate, but cry for your own.”
—Members of the Order of the Solar T.. New York Times, p. 1 (October l4, 1994)
“Undoubtedly we have not questions to ask which are unanswerable. We must trust the perfection of the creation so far, as to believe that whatever curiosity the order of things has awakened in our minds, the order of things can satisfy. Every mans condition is a solution in hieroglyphic to those inquiries he would put. He acts it as life, before he apprehends it as truth.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
