House System
As with most Australian schools, Orange High School utilises a house system for sport and administrative purposes. Students are divided into four houses upon their enrolment:
- Bourke (dark green) - Named after Richard Bourke
- Elliott (yellow)
- Macquarie (dark blue) - Named after Lachlan Macquarie
- Parkes (red) - Named after Henry Parkes

Famous quotes containing the words house and/or system:
“Happy will that house be in which the relations are formed from character; after the highest, and not after the lowest order; the house in which character marries, and not confusion and a miscellany of unavowable motives.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“The violent illiteracies of the graffiti, the clenched silence of the adolescent, the nonsense cries from the stage-happening, are resolutely strategic. The insurgent and the freak-out have broken off discourse with a cultural system which they despise as a cruel, antiquated fraud. They will not bandy words with it. Accept, even momentarily, the conventions of literate linguistic exchange, and you are caught in the net of the old values, of the grammars that can condescend or enslave.”
—George Steiner (b. 1929)
