Live Performances
"Optimistic" was performed often during an initial tour in 2000 but it did not appear again in Radiohead's live shows until it was brought back in 2008 to be played twice at a special show for BBC Radio 1 on April 1 and again on May 4, during a VH1 airing of the programme From the Basement, featuring a set from their then-newest album In Rainbows. Since then, the song has become a regular part of the setlist during their 2008 tour. The live performance is similar to the one found on the album, featuring three guitars, bass and drums.

Famous quotes containing the words live and/or performances:
“We live technologically, with man as the master of nature, man as the engineer, and let anyone who raises his voice against it stop using bridges not built by nature.... No electric light bulbs, no engines, no atomic energy, no calculating machines, no anaestheticsback to the jungle.”
—Max Frisch (19111991)
“At one of the later performances you asked why they called it a miracle,
Since nothing ever happened. That, of course, was the miracle
But you wanted to know why so much action took on so much life
And still managed to remain itself, aloof, smiling and courteous.”
—John Ashbery (b. 1927)
