O'Neill Dynasty - Anrothan Kindred

Anrothan Kindred

Finally, there are five Scottish clans who have traditionally claimed descent from Ánrothán Ua Néill, Lord of Badenoch, younger son of Áed Athlaman Ua Néill, King of Ailech (died 1033, and ancestor of the O'Neill dynasty), son of Flaithbertach Ua Néill, King of Ailech (died 1036). After campaigning in Scotland, Ánrothán settled first in either Badenoch or Argyll, marrying the daughter of a king in the region. These families are the Clan Sweeney (who eventually reemigrated to Ireland), Clan Maclachlan (who match the MacSweeney pedigree), Clan Lamont (possibly alternative pedigree), Clan MacEwen of Otter (defunct, but related to the Maclachlans), and finally Clan MacNeil (the latest to appear). Their pedigrees can be found in the works of Duald Mac Firbis, Cú Choigcríche Ó Cléirigh, and Scottish compilations.

Famous quotes containing the word kindred:

When desire, having rejected reason and overpowered judgment which leads to right, is set in the direction of the pleasure which beauty can inspire, and when again under the influence of its kindred desires it is moved with violent motion towards the beauty of corporeal forms, it acquires a surname from this very violent motion, and is called love.
    Socrates (469–399 B.C.)
