Goals
Founded on the idea that public data is not truly public if it is not freely accessible, the OMG standard project has several goals:
- To develop an open technical standard for the structuring and sharing of public geodata
- To develop a library of case-studies, documentation and source materials supporting the benefits of making public geodata easily accessible
- To help build and empower a broad community of citizens and government officials working to foster adoption of the standard by their local governments

Famous quotes containing the word goals:
“Whoever sincerely believes that elevated and distant goals are as little use to man as a cow, that all of our problems come from such goals, is left to eat, drink, sleep, or, when he gets sick of that, to run up to a chest and smash his forehead on its corner.”
—Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (18601904)
“If people would forget about utopia! When rationalism destroyed heaven and decided to set it up here on earth, that most terrible of all goals entered human ambition. It was clear thered be no end to what people would be made to suffer for it.”
—Nadine Gordimer (b. 1923)
“Artists have a double relationship towards nature: they are her master and her slave at the same time. They are her slave in so far as they must work with means of this world so as to be understood; her master in so far as they subject these means to their higher goals and make them subservient to them.”
—Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe (17491832)
