Olympic Torch (virus Hoax) - Real Malware Delivered By Virtual Postcards

Real Malware Delivered By Virtual Postcards

Despite the fact that the Olympic Torch and PostCard viruses are a hoax, there have been other malware attacks using email pretending to be virtual postcards from well-known e-card websites.

Such emails may contain a link claiming to be a virtual postcard, but in reality the website attempts to download a virus or other malware. The website linked in the postcard email mentioned by Sophos attempts to install trojan software.

Such postcard emails have been used for years, but are not considered a "HUGE VIRUS COMING", nor is there apparent evidence of hard disks being 'burnt' by such malware.

Famous quotes containing the words real, delivered and/or virtual:

But with some small portion of real genius and a warm imagination, an author surely may be permitted a little to expand his wings and to wander in the aerial fields of fancy, provided ... that he soar not to such dangerous heights, from whence unplumed he may fall to the ground disgraced, if not disabled from ever rising anymore.
    Sarah Fielding (1710–1768)

...I delivered the poor who cried, and the orphan who had no helper. The blessing of the wretched came upon me, and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy. I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was like a robe and a turban. I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame. I was a father to the needy, and I championed the cause of the stranger. I broke the fangs of the unrighteous, and made them drop their prey from their teeth.
    Bible: Hebrew, Job 29:12-17.

    Job, recounting his faithfulness.

Tragedy dramatizes human life as potentiality and fulfillment. Its virtual future, or Destiny, is therefore quite different from that created in comedy. Comic Destiny is Fortune—what the world will bring, and the man will take or miss, encounter or escape; tragic Destiny is what the man brings, and the world will demand of him. That is his Fate.
    Susanne K. Langer (1895–1985)
