Okanagan Valley Railway

Okanagan Valley Railway (reporting mark OKAN) was the railway division of Omnitrax, a transportation services company. Tracks ran 94 miles (151 km) from Vernon to Sicamous and served five towns en-route. Among the businesses served were forestry, farming, chemicals and cement. Okanagan Valley Railway's biggest customer was OI Canada, Western Canada's only producer of glass beverage containers.

Because the OI glass plant closed in Spring 2009, OKAN lost most of its business and ultimately shut down on September 21, 2009.

Famous quotes containing the words valley and/or railway:

The wide wonder of Broadway is disconsolate in the daytime; but gaudily glorious at night, with a milling crowd filling sidewalk and roadway, silent, going up, going down, between upstanding banks of brilliant lights, each building braided and embossed with glowing, many-coloured bulbs of man-rayed luminance. A glowing valley of the shadow of life. The strolling crowd went slowly by through the kinematically divine thoroughfare of New York.
    Sean O’Casey (1884–1964)

Her personality had an architectonic quality; I think of her when I see some of the great London railway termini, especially St. Pancras, with its soot and turrets, and she overshadowed her own daughters, whom she did not understand—my mother, who liked things to be nice; my dotty aunt. But my mother had not the strength to put even some physical distance between them, let alone keep the old monster at emotional arm’s length.
    Angela Carter (1940–1992)
