Oil Shale in Jordan - Power Generation

Power Generation

For dealing with increasing power consumption, Jordan plans to utilize oil shale combustion for the power generation. On 30 April 2008, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Jordan, the National Electricity Power Company of Jordan, and Eesti Energia signed an agreement, according to which, Eesti Energia will have the exclusive right to develop the construction of an oil shale-fired power station with capacity of 600-900 MW. Construction is expected to start in 2012. The power station is expected to be operational by 2015. When constructed, it will be among the largest power stations in Jordan (the largest being Aqaba Thermal Power Station), and the largest oil shale-fired power station in the world after Narva Power Plants in Estonia.

Inter RAO is planning to build an oil shale-fired power station with capacity of 90–150 MW.

Famous quotes containing the words power and/or generation:

There is a Restlessness springing from the consciousness of power not fully utilized, which must be present wherever there is unused power of whatever kind. This is the restlessness of the germ within the seed, struggling upward and downward towards its proper life. ... it is a striving full of pain, the cutting of tender flesh by the fetters of the captive as he struggles against their pitilessness.
    Anna C. Brackett (1836–1911)

Our chaotic economic situation has convinced so many of our young people that there is no room for them. They become uncertain and restless and morbid; they grab at false promises, embrace false gods and judge things by treacherous values. Their insecurity makes them believe that tomorrow doesn’t matter and the ineffectualness of their lives makes them deny the ideals which we of an older generation acknowledged.
    Hortense Odlum (1892–?)
