Ohio State Route 87 - Route Description

Route Description

State Route 87 begins at Public Square in Cleveland, at an intersection with US 6 / US 42 / SR 3. It is concurrent with U.S. Route 422 and State Route 8 for just over 2 miles (3.2 km) (as well as State Route 14 and State Route 43 for a short segment), and then leaves the concurrency to occupy a section of Woodland Avenue. The route heads eastward and becomes Buckeye Road, and then Shaker Boulevard, which is a divided boulevard with RTA commuter rail tracks (the "Rapid") between the east- and westbound lanes as it travels through Shaker Heights.

At Richmond Road in Beachwood, State Route 87 joins SR 175 from the north and heads south approximately 1-mile (1.6 km) to Chagrin Boulevard, where the route leaves State Route 175 and joins U.S. Route 422 east. A short distance later, at the Interstate 271 interchange, U.S. Route 422 leaves the concurrency southward, and State Route 87 continues east on Chagrin Boulevard through Woodmere Village and Pepper Pike, and then on Pinetree Road and South Woodland Road, intersects with State Route 91 (SOM Center Road) and enters Moreland Hills.

State Route 87 enters Geauga County and becomes Kinsman Road for most of its remaining length, and intersects with State Route 306 (Chillicothe Road), passes by Punderson State Park, and intersects with State Route 44 (Ravenna Road) at Newbury.

The route then enters Burton, where it temporarily becomes Center Street and intersects with State Route 168 (Cheshire Street); then through Ohio's second largest Amish community in Middlefield as High Street, the route intersects with State Route 608 (State Street).

Just east of Middlefield, the route resumes its Kinsman Road name, and intersects with State Route 528 (Madison Road), before entering Trumbull County.

In Trumbull County, State Route 87 intersects with State Route 534 at Mesopotamia, and then State Route 45 at North Bloomfield. Next, it crosses State Route 46, followed by its interchange with State Route 11. Finally, it intersects with State Route 193 and reaches its terminus at the State Route 5 / State Route 7 concurrency north of Kinsman.

Famous quotes containing the words route and/or description:

By a route obscure and lonely,
    Haunted by ill angels only,
    Where an eidolon, named Night,
On a black throne reigns upright,
I have reached these lands but newly
    From an ultimate dim Thule—
From a wild weird clime that lieth, sublime,
    Out of space—out of time.
    Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849)

As they are not seen on their way down the streams, it is thought by fishermen that they never return, but waste away and die, clinging to rocks and stumps of trees for an indefinite period; a tragic feature in the scenery of the river bottoms worthy to be remembered with Shakespeare’s description of the sea-floor.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
