Ohio State Route 188 - History

History

SR 188 made its debut in 1927. When it was first designated, it was routed along its present alignment between Circleville and Lancaster, following what had been previously designated as a portion of SR 158. In 1937, SR 188 was extended to the northeast from Lancaster along what was at the time an un-numbered roadway to its current eastern terminus at SR 204 in Thornville.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The history of reform is always identical; it is the comparison of the idea with the fact. Our modes of living are not agreeable to our imagination. We suspect they are unworthy. We arraign our daily employments.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The history of a soldier’s wound beguiles the pain of it.
    Laurence Sterne (1713–1768)

In history an additional result is commonly produced by human actions beyond that which they aim at and obtain—that which they immediately recognize and desire. They gratify their own interest; but something further is thereby accomplished, latent in the actions in question, though not present to their consciousness, and not included in their design.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)
