    Along the garden-wall the bees
    With hairy bellies pass between
    The staminate and pistillate,
    Blest office of the epicene.

The office of the Vice-President is a greater honor than I ever dreamed of attaining.
    Chester A. Arthur (1829–1886)

In government offices which are sensitive to the vehemence and passion of mass sentiment public men have no sure tenure. They are in effect perpetual office seekers, always on trial for their political lives, always required to court their restless constituents.
    Walter Lippmann (1889–1974)

As a result their boss soars out of economic into magic significance. He becomes a source of blessings rather than wages. Criticism is sacrilege, doubt is heresy.
    Ben Hecht (1893–1964)
