Odetta & Larry - After The Tin Angel

After The Tin Angel

The duo ceased playing together because Larry was drafted into the army, and was soon shipped to Bordeaux, France. By the time he returned to San Francisco from the army in 1956, the Tin Angel had folded. The duo reconnected and played several concerts in Berkley, San Francisco and Los Angeles. The pair began growing in separate directions as Odetta went on to an illustrious professional singing career and Larry went on to an accomplished academic career. He worked for the United States Public Health Service in Washington, D.C. for many years, went to graduate school, and eventually became a professor of Political Science and the University of Michigan. The pair remained friends and saw each other from time to time, but not often.

Famous quotes containing the words tin and/or angel:

The knocking out of a pipe can be made almost as important as the smoking of it, especially if there are nervous people in the room. A good, smart knock of a pipe against a tin wastebasket and you will have a neurasthenic out of his chair and into the window sash in no time.
    Robert Benchley (1889–1945)

And the angel in the gate, the flowering plum,
    Dances like Italy, imagining red.
    Louis Simpson (b. 1923)
