Ocean View (Norfolk) - Ocean View Fishing Pier

Ocean View Fishing Pier

Not only was the Amusement Park so well known to the area, so was Harrison's Fishing Pier. Owned by Bill Harrison and managed by Charlie Woodard. It was completely destroyed during Hurricane Isabel in late 2003. A new pier was rebuilt, called the Ocean View Fishing Pier. Now owned by Ronnie Boone Jr., it continues to be an Ocean View landmark and attraction.

This fishing pier is 1,690 feet long and is generally known as the longest free-standing fishing pier in North America.

Famous quotes containing the words ocean, view, fishing and/or pier:

the ocean, under the pulsation of lighthouses and noise of bell
    buoys,
advances as usual, looking as if it were not that ocean in which
dropped things are bound to sink—
in which if they turn and twist, it is neither with volition nor
    consciousness.
    Marianne Moore (1887–1972)

The heavenly Babe you there shall find
    To human view displayed,
All meanly wrapped in swaddling bands
    And in a manger laid.
    Nahum Tate (1652–1715)

It is long ere we discover how rich we are. Our history, we are sure, is quite tame: we have nothing to write, nothing to infer. But our wiser years still run back to the despised recollections of childhood, and always we are fishing up some wonderful article out of that pond; until, by and by, we begin to suspect that the biography of the one foolish person we know is, in reality, nothing less than the miniature paraphrase of the hundred volumes of the Universal History.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

    Duccio came not by usura
nor Pier della Francesca; Zuan Bellin’ not by usura
    nor was ‘La Calunnia’ painted.
Came not by usura Angelico; came not Ambrogio Praedis,
Came no church of cut stone signed: Adamo me fecit.
    Ezra Pound (1885–1972)
