Major Science Themes
The multiple sites, platforms, and extensive spatial scales of the OOI components will advance ocean science by targeting areas of high scientific interest that are under sampled or beyond the reach of present technologies. In particular, they will target key scientific processes that occur at temporal and spatial scales that cannot be effectively sampled or studied using traditional scientific tools. These include:
