Conservation Status
All 40 species are listed under United States federal legislation as endangered. The IUCN lists a number of these species as extinction and the remainder as critically endangered. In many cases the introduced and highly predatory snail Euglandina rosea has been involved in the extinctions and declines of the native tree snails.

Famous quotes containing the words conservation and/or status:
“The putting into force of laws which shall secure the conservation of our resources, as far as they may be within the jurisdiction of the Federal Government, including the more important work of saving and restoring our forests and the great improvement of waterways, are all proper government functions which must involve large expenditure if properly performed.”
—William Howard Taft (18571930)
“Knowing how beleaguered working mothers truly areknowing because I am one of themI am still amazed at how one need only say I work to be forgiven all expectation, to be assigned almost a handicapped status that no decent human being would burden further with demands. I work has become the universally accepted excuse, invoked as an all-purpose explanation for bowing out, not participating, letting others down, or otherwise behaving inexcusably.”
—Melinda M. Marshall (20th century)
