The Nzema are an Akan people. They live in southwestern Akanland and in the southeast of Ivory Coast, and number 328,700 of whom 262,000 live in southwestern Akanland and 66,700 live in the southeast of Ivory Coast. In Akanland, the Nzema area is divided into two districts of Nzema East District and Nzema West which is also referred to as Jomoro District of Akanland. Nzema speak the Akan dialect Nzema language, which is also known as Nzima (in Akanland) or Appolo (in Ivory Coast).
