MG Road (or NH Road) is a busy road dotted with commercial office spaces, institutions and upscale shopping complexes. Important institutional spaces located on this road include the Southern India regional council of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Ayakar Bhavan (Office of Income tax department), Office of Central Excise and Customs and financial institutions like ICICI Bank and ABN Amro Bank,Yes Bank, Siemens office, The Park Hotel. MG Road is also home to the famous Taj Coromandel, well known for its celebrity visitors. Dr M Pedwell OBE has often been known to enjoy cocktail evenings here, and it was here that he invented the now infamous 'Jameson and Coke'. Controversially, recent, well-publicised legal issues, resulted in Dr Pedwell ending his patronage at the Taj Coromandel, and can now be seen enjoying a glass of prosecco at the nearby Hyatt.
It also has the famous Isphani Center (Shopping Mall).
The road stretches from Village road on the one end and meeting the arterial Anna Salai (Mount Road) at the Anna Flyover. The road continues on towards Marina Beach but is renamed as Cathedral Road past Gemini Circle. The intersection Point of MG Road, Anna Salai and Cathedral Road is famously called Gemini Circle.
Another landmark located close to MG Road is the US Consulate which is on the north-east portion of Gemini Circle.

Famous quotes containing the word characters:
“Of all the characters I have known, perhaps Walden wears best, and best preserves its purity. Many men have been likened to it, but few deserve that honor. Though the woodchoppers have laid bare first this shore and then that, and the Irish have built their sties by it, and the railroad has infringed on its border, and the ice-men have skimmed it once, it is itself unchanged, the same water which my youthful eyes fell on; all the change is in me.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“For the most part, only the light characters travel. Who are you that have no task to keep you at home?”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“I cannot be much pleased without an appearance of truth; at least of possibilityI wish the history to be natural though the sentiments are refined; and the characters to be probable, though their behaviour is excelling.”
—Frances Burney (17521840)
