Northern Norwegian Cup

The Northern Norwegian Cup was a Norwegian football tournament for men that was played between 1929 and 1969. It was made for clubs from Northern Norway, because these were not allowed admission into the All-Norwegian cup until 1962. After the admission of Northern Norwegian teams, the cup lost its importance, and was ended in 1969.

Famous quotes containing the words northern and/or cup:

Our ancestors were savages. The story of Romulus and Remus being suckled by a wolf is not a meaningless fable. The founders of every state which has risen to eminence have drawn their nourishment and vigor from a similar wild source. It was because the children of the Empire were not suckled by the wolf that they were conquered and displaced by the children of the northern forests who were.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Sisters define their rivalry in terms of competition for the gold cup of parental love. It is never perceived as a cup which runneth over, rather a finite vessel from which the more one sister drinks, the less is left for the others.
    Elizabeth Fishel (20th century)
