North Leigh F.C. - History

History

The club was founded in 1908. The club has won the Hellenic League Premier Division twice in their history, in 2001–02 and 2002–03, but did not apply for promotion to the Southern League, and remained members of the Hellenic League Premier Division for one more season.

In the 2006–07 season, North Leigh just missed out on promotion to Slimbridge who then folded, but too late for North Leigh to take their place. However in the season 2007–08, they did apply and gained promotion after rivals Almondsbury Town who had topped the table all season lost 1–0 to Abingdon Town on the last day of the season.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

    The custard is setting; meanwhile
I not only have my own history to worry about
But am forced to fret over insufficient details related to large
Unfinished concepts that can never bring themselves to the point
Of being, with or without my help, if any were forthcoming.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)

Every generation rewrites the past. In easy times history is more or less of an ornamental art, but in times of danger we are driven to the written record by a pressing need to find answers to the riddles of today.... In times of change and danger when there is a quicksand of fear under men’s reasoning, a sense of continuity with generations gone before can stretch like a lifeline across the scary present and get us past that idiot delusion of the exceptional Now that blocks good thinking.
    John Dos Passos (1896–1970)

In history as in human life, regret does not bring back a lost moment and a thousand years will not recover something lost in a single hour.
    Stefan Zweig (18811942)
