Thornton, Clive. Red Rubies: A History of the Devon Breed of Cattle, Manchester, 1993. The author was formerly chief executive of Abbey National building society and then in 1984 briefly chairman of Mirror Group Newspapers until its take-over by Robert Maxwell. His herd with prefix "Thorndale" has won many prizes.
