North Carolina's 9th Congressional District

The 9th Congressional District of North Carolina is a Congressional district in south-central North Carolina. The district boundaries were redrawn in 2011. It now consists of southern, western and northern portions of Mecklenburg County, the western portion of Union County and a southwestern portion of Iredell County. It no longer includes any portions of Gaston County or Lincoln County. The new boundaries will be in effect for the 113th Congress taking office in January 2013.

Republicans have held this district since 1963. Republican Sue Myrick has represented the district since 1995 but is not seeking re-election in 2012.

    Vachel Lindsay (1879–1931)

Poetry presents indivisible wholes of human consciousness, modified and ordered by the stringent requirements of form. Prose, aiming at a definite and concrete goal, generally suppresses everything inessential to its purpose; poetry, existing only to exhibit itself as an aesthetic object, aims only at completeness and perfection of form.
Richard Harter Fogle, U.S. critic, educator. The Imagery of Keats and Shelley, ch. 1, University of North Carolina Press (1949)

Most works of art, like most wines, ought to be consumed in the district of their fabrication.
    Rebecca West (1892–1983)
