The western terminus is at NC 89/US 52 Business in downtown Mount Airy. This is next door to the Mount Airy Visitor Center. NC 103 barely gets away from the outskirts of Mount Airy, before crossing over into Virginia. NC 103 continues into Virginia as State Route 103, near Claudville. By now, NC 103 is truly in rural countryside.
